Semiconductor revenues to grow 2.5% in 2007

Gartner thinks worldwide semiconductor revenue will total $269.2 bln in 2007, up 2.5% from 2006. Gartner had previously projected 2007 revenue would increase 6.4%.

Indian TV market to generate $4 bln by 2011

India’s television market is set to grow to 18.7 mln units by 2011, expanding at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 9% from 12.1 mln units in 2006. On the revenue side, overall television sales will reach $4 bln by 2011, rising at a CAGR of 9.6%, up from $2.5 bln in 2006, according to iSuppli.

China’s high-tech industry is expected to generate $1.45 trillion by 2010, National Development and Reform Commission says.

SOA to be used in more than 50% of mission-critical apps in 2007

Service-oriented architecture (SOA) will be used in more than 50% of new mission-critical operational applications and business processes designed in 2007 and in more than 80% by 2010, according to Gartner.

30% of M2M modules to be 3G modules by 2012

ABI Research forecasts that 3G modules will achieve only a 30% penetration of the M2M market by 2012, and will become the technology of choice only where bandwidth demands and economics dictate.

20% of digital camera owners exercise their artistic skills

20% of digital camera owners use their digital camera for artistic purposes, for moonlighting job, or to master photography skills. This segment of photo customers is called the advanced amateur or prosumer segment and has been generating much of the business at camera stores around the country for many years. Manay advanced amateurs are possible candidates looking to enter the studio photography business at some point, as well. Digital advanced amateur customers were 20% more likely to purchase a camera in 2006, Photo Marketing Association says.

Vientamese PC market up 42% in 2006

In 2006, the PC unit shipments in Vietnam grew 42% compared with 2005, with the country’s mobile PC shipments up 87% compared with 2005, Gartner reports.

82.8% of all hard drives went into PCs in 2006

Despite healthy growth in non-PC applications, the traditional PC/server markets consumed 82.8% of all hard disk drives shipped in 2006. Traditional markets will continue to consume more than 70% of all HDDs as shipments expand from 435 mln in 2006 to 762 mln in 2011, Gartner says.

90% of all wireless broadband to be WiMAX by 2012

WiMAX standard is expected to grow rapidly with 90% of all broadband wireless deployments worldwide using it by 2012. Maravedis projects that demand for WiMAX and broadband customer premise equipment will rise to $3.7 bln during the same period.

The MEMS industry worldwide reached almost $6 bln in 2006 and grows with a compound annual growth rate of 14%, Research and Markets says.

42% of US online shoppers use comparison engines

71% of shoppers browse multiple online stores prior to completing a purchase. 42% shoppers price shop a product via comparison engines. 48% of the online shoppers surveyed described their loyalty to merchants across channels (store, Web, catalog) as somewhat loyal to certain merchants based on a combination of good value, superior service and the right mix of product. 70% of respondents surveyed belong to a frequent buyer/loyalty program. 53% ranked discounts or exclusive offers for members as the most important feature of Frequent Buyer/Loyalty Programs, DoubleClick Permormics survey says.

When deciding to go back to a Web site, online order tracking was rated as very important by 56% of those surveyed. Poor service ranked most likely to deter shoppers from becoming loyal to a Web site by 41% of respondents. Rewards’ customers (those belonging to 2+ programs) are less apt to be focused on price, utilizing more features and tools to enhance their multi-channel shopping experiences. At least half of the shoppers surveyed indicated purchasing clothing, books, music, computer-ware and toys online. Free shipping continues to be the most important enticement to drive customers back to sites.

23.1% of Americans are 18 to 34

In 2006, there are 68.9 mln individuals aged 18-34, representing 23.1% of the total US population, Research and Markets says.

62% of all PDAs shipped in Q1 2007 had Windows Mobile

In Q1 2007, worldwide PDA shipments grew 39.7% compared with Q1 2006 to 5.1 mln units. Eastern Europe and Latin America were the fastest-growing regions. More than 62% of all PDAs shipped in Q1 2007 were based on Windows Mobile, and 71% had integrated cellular connectivity, Gartner says.

Configurable driver instrument displays to generate $1.75 bln by 2012

The world market for configurable driver instrument displays is expected to grow to about $1.75 bln by 2012. Tier One suppliers such as Denso, Siemens VDO, and Visteon will capitalize on this market if they can develop attractive, configurable solutions for their OEM customers without needing a cost increase, ABI Research says.
