Ukrainian search engine market: Google - 40.4%, Yandex - 16%, Rambler - 14.7%

According to BigMir.net statistics on preferred search engines among Ukrainian Internet users, Google enjoys 40.4% share followed by Yandex.ru (16%), Rambler.ru (14.7%), Meta.ua (14.3%) and Bigmir.net (8.2%).

Indian cellular revenues to reach $24 bln by 2009

India’s cellular services revenue will reach $24 bln by the end of 2009, recording a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 35.6%, according to Gartner. The Indian cellular market will account for 11% of the overall Asia Pacific and Japan market by 2009. The entire Asia Pacific and Japan market will generate $225 bln revenue in 2009, a CAGR of 6.2% increase from 2004.

8.2 mln UMD movies sold

9 mln games and 8.2 mln movie titles have been sold on Sony’s Universal Media Disk format. In a few years Sony expect videos to be more than 60% of all UMD sales, with an expected 130 mln UMDs being sold in 2008.

Servers up 2.4% in Q2 2005 in EMEA

According to IDC, factory revenue in EMEA server market systems grew at 2.4% YTY to $4.0 bln in the Q2 2005, the lowest growth rate recorded in nine consecutive quarters of positive revenue growth. The Euro picture of the EMEA server market is slightly gloomier, as the market declined 2.0% in annual comparison to just over 3.1 bln euros. Unit shipments grew 9.6% to 522,000, the lowest unit growth in more than two years on the back of high double-digit annual growth in the previous quarters. The market for servers in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) continued to expand at the faster rate in Q2 2005, topping by far the other EMEA sub-regions’ performances. Compared to Q2 2004, shipments were up by 20.5% and revenue up 12.0%. This increased CEE revenue share to 7.1%. Growth in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) was more subdued in 2Q05 in comparison to previous quarters but still higher than the European average with revenue and unit growth at 11.7% and 10.5% respectively.

Global NAND flash market to reach $10.9 bln in 2007

The global NAND flash market is expected to grow by 65% to $10.9 bln in 2007, according to iSuppli. During the period, overall microchip shipments are likely to expand only 24%, World Semiconductor Trade Statistics said.

30% of New Zealanders bought products online, 50% investigated online but bought offline

Over 30% of New Zealanders reported having investigated and purchased any products or services online, and an additional 50% of respondents had investigated products and services online but had either paid for the products offline or had not yet made a purchase, Nielsen//NetRatings reported.

90% of SRAM manufacturers now make Pseudo SRAM

According to Semico Research, Pseudo SRAM (PSRAM) is gaining ground. PSRAM has a one-transistor DRAM cell, as opposed to the typical six-transistor SRAM cell. The DRAM architecture gives PSRAM some strong advantages over low-power 6T SRAM, namely smaller size and competitive pricing. Manufacturers that account for 90% of the total SRAM market now make PSRAM. The company’s forecast is still on target for 1.2 bln unit shipments for 2005, $2.7 bln in revenues, and an aggregate ASP down $.21 from 2004.

20 government contracts to total $250 bln in 2006

If you take a look at the US government top 20 IT contracts, they will total $250 bln in fiscal 2006, Input says. In 2005 top 20 IT contracts provided for $250 bln.

Chinese search engine market shares: Baidu - 52%, Google - 33%

China Internet Network Information Center says that Baidu.com search engine captured 52% of the audience in Beijing, China. Google was second with 33%. Sohu.com had 4.6% of the market, Sina had 4% and Yahoo! has 3.7% share. There was a total of 103 mln Internet users in China in June 2005.

Digital downloads account for 2% of UK music market

Currently digital downloads account for 2% of the music sold in the UK.

64% of all 2004 phone calls in Finland were from cell phones

Textually.org points to a Survey by Statistics Finland saying that 64% of all 2004 phone calls in Finland originated from cell phones. A total of 3.8 bln phone calls were made from mobile phones in 2004, representing an increase of 12% from 2003. A total of 2.1 bln phone calls were made from local fixed-line networks in 2004, down by 14% from 2003. Mobile penetration in Finland was estimated at 96%.

$69.23 bln of federal contracts awarded to small businesses in 2004

The federal government awarded a record-high $69.23 bln in contracts to small businesses in 2004, according to Federal Procurement Data Center.

Professional services to become the biggest consumer of storage and servers

IDC expects the US professional services industry to surpass the discrete manufacturing sector as the largest overall consumer of storage and server technology by 2009, both in terms of dollars spent and spending growth rate. As a whole, the US server market is estimated to reach $23.9 bln by 2009, with a 4.8% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) over the next 5 years, while spending on external storage systems within the US will grow to $7.6 bln by 2009 with a 6.48% CAGR over the forecast period. Driven by extensive infrastructure needs, hosted services, and application development in 2004, the professional services industry spent over $590 mln on storage systems, and accounted for 13.5% of server sales within the United States. Professional services will continue to represent an attractive opportunity for server vendors due to its consistently high consumption of enterprise server equipment.

US median household income was $44,389 in 2004

The real median income of US households was essentially unchanged at $44,389 in 2004, according to US Census Bureau. The official poverty rate increased from 12.5% to 12.7%, representing 37 mln people in poverty, up from 35.9 mln in 2003. Among children, the poverty rate remained at 17.8% or 13 mln. For a family of four, the poverty level was defined as household income of $19,307. For a single person, it was income of $9,645.

Nearly 16.5 mln extension lines shipped to organizations in Western Europe during 2004, most of them to small and midsize businesses. Alcatel was the top vendor, with a market share of 16%. Siemens came second, Gartner says. Nearly 4 mln extension lines shipped to organizations in Germany during 2004, most of them to small and midsize businesses. Siemens was the top vendor, with a market share of 27%. Tenovis came second. Over 1 mln extension lines shipped to organizations in Spain during 2004, most of them to small and midsize businesses. Web-based e-mail shares: Hotmail - 35.5%, Yahoo! Mail - 35.1%

ComScore Networks is quoted in a Reuters article with the data on Web-based e-mail usage. With 221 mln users (35.5%) MSN Hotmail leads the market, followed by Yahoo! Mail with 219 mln users and 35.1% of the market.

Speech recognition telephony to generate $173 mln in 2009

Port shipments in worldwide speech recognition telephony software market will increase from 165,000 in 2004 to almost 400,000 by 2009. But competitive pricing will see end-user spending grow much more slowly, from $117 mln in 2004, to $173 mln in 2009, Gartner says.
